Adopt a citation

The research behind this site cites 106 works and not one page number. This is the job that needs a person with a library card. It is the only part a machine genuinely cannot finish.

Why the pages are missing. Nobody has opened these books. Writing a page number from memory would look more scholarly and would be a fabrication — the easiest kind of lie to tell and the hardest to catch, since nobody notices unless they own the book. So the field was left empty and the count published instead.

It has read 0 since day one. That is the honest number, and it is the one you can change.

How it works

Pick any work below. Find where it makes the listed claim. Send back the page. That is the whole task — roughly thirty seconds once the book is open.

Each entry links out to where the book actually lives: borrow it free from the Internet Archive, find it in a library near you, search inside it on Google Books (often enough on its own — search-inside returns page numbers without needing the book), or buy it.

The rule that matters: only send a page you have actually looked at. A guess is worse than a blank, because a blank is honest and a guess is invisible.

The works marked opposes are the most valuable. Those are the sources arguing against this project's own conclusions, and they carry the most weight precisely because of it.
